ABOUT MICC 



The Milan International Cello Competition, initiated by the Classical Music Art Association of Milan, Italy in 2024, aims to promote the development of classical music, cultivate a new generation of classical music talents, and enhance international cultural communication and exchange. The competition has attracted music enthusiasts, outstanding young talents, and young musicians from over a dozen countries including China, Europe, the Americas, and Australia to participate and compete. In 2024, the Milan International Cello Competition collaborates with orchestras and music festivals from Italy and Switzerland to provide an international stage for the winners of the competition for their development and exchange.



The Milan International Cello Competition in 2024 welcomes participants of all nationalities. The first round of the competition will be conducted online, and the second round will take place at the Milan Music Hall in Italy for the global final. The competition is scheduled for October 5th.

RULES



  • The 2024 Milan International Cello Competition will be conducted in two rounds: the first round will be an online video preliminary round, and the second round will be an in-person final (Milan, Italy).


  • The Application deadline for the  online preliminary round of the first stage of the competition is August 15th.


  • Participants in the preliminary round must submit their competition videos before August 15, 2024. No applications will be accepted after this date. The results of the preliminary round will be announced on September 1, 2024.


  • Participants who advance from the preliminary round will compete in the finals in October.


  • The commission will evaluate the evidence presented on video by each of the participants and will assign an evaluation based solely/only on the performance sent.


  • Candidates will be able to publish their videos on the following platforms: YouTube


  •  Candidates may not contact any member of the jury until the competition has ended and the prizes awarded. Feedback on their performance will be provided to those who apply. Any violation of this rule will result in elimination from the competition.



  • The three winners will have the obligation to participate in the post-competition interview and planned activities.

The competition has  different age groups for Solo Performance ( with Video duration limit )


Group A   age 6-8:      born on or after 1st September 2016. - Max 5 min

Group B   age 9-11:     born on or after 1st September 2013.  - Max 10 min 

Group C   age 12-14:   born on or after 1st September 2010. - Max 15min 

Group D   age 15-17:   born on or after 1st September 2007. - Max 15min 

Group E   age 18-20:   born on or after 1st September 2004.  - Max 20min 

Group F    age 21 - 24:  born on or after 1st September 2000 - Max 20min

Group G   age  25+:   born on or before 1st September 1999. - Max 20min

Regarding video files:



     - Each video must contain a piece. Candidates who present more pieces, will have to send separate videos for each piece presented.


     - The performances must be presented without editing or cuts and must have the original audio of the place where the recording takes place.


     - The video recording must be fixed and with a resolution of no less than 720P. Candidate's hands and face must be clearly seen.


     - There must be no voice presentations, video post production and mixing.


     - Participants' videos need to be submitted via email or by providing a direct link to the video. The video's title and description must include the participant's name, category, and the details of the repertory.

The winner of the first prize will have the opportunity to perform as a soloist with a chamber orchestra within the planned post-competition activities.


At the discretion of the commission, Special Mentions may be assigned to some deserving candidates who will have the opportunity to receive scholarships for masterclasses organized by the Competition Organization for the year 2025.
